The BTSA stands for The Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta. The BTSA is the amalgamation of the many Buddhist temples that once stood in Southern Alberta. With its origins coming from the Raymond Buddhist Church of Southern Alberta in 1929, the history of the BTSA runs deep into the history of Alberta itself. The BTSA follows the teachings of the Jodo Shinshu Buddhist sect, or the “Shin” Buddhist way. A world of mystery, those who wish to learn about the Shin way also take a journey through themselves. A lifetime could be spent learning the Shin way, and only the surface would be scratched. Jodo Shinshu is one of the main denominations practiced in Japan today with Jodo Shinshu Temples spanning across the world from South America to North America. Today the BTSA stands with a large ever-growing community of practitioners. The temple also hosts several fun pastimes for those seeking a fun new hobby such as Taiko drumming, Bingo, Minyo dancing, an introduction to Buddhism class, meditation classes and yoga. Sunday services are offered through the BTSA YouTube and Facebook pages in a live streaming format in conjunction with in-temple services when permitted. Links to our YouTube and Facebook pages can be found on our website. For those who wish to learn about the BTSA before coming to a in temple service, the BTSA offers podcasts that can be found on our website and streaming apps such as Spotify called “A Buddhist Life”. These podcasts are a great way of dipping one’s toes in the Buddhist themes, with episodes that cover different questions and ideas from crime to meditational practices.  These podcasts are recorded at the temple and are aired monthly. The Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta also houses knowledgeable Buddhist ministers who are happy to speak with those who are curious to learn more. Come visit today!
